Teacher Assistant

Job Responsibilities

This is a position for an independent learner who: likes to collaborate, experiment, evaluate and continually improve; has a deep respect for all children believing that each human has genius within; and is a flexible problem-solver.

  • Works with teachers to promote the educational and social development of the children enrolled in the program.

  • Supports the learning environment.

  • Helps with appropriate daily activities for children.

  • Conducts small groups in regards to specific learning material.

  • Establishes and maintains a safe, healthy, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children.

  • Supervises children for safety.

  • Keeps the learning environment clean and orderly by picking up learning materials, wiping tables and chairs, organizing etc.

  • Confers with parents in the absence of the teacher.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a deep curiosity about life, a lifelong love of learning, and an entrepreneurial spirit (must thrive in a startup environment). She/he will be responsible for facilitating a nurturing and joyful learning culture. We seek someone who has/is:

  • Patient

  • Good observational and communication skills

  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills

  • Passionate about alternative education

  • Strong relationship building with children

  • Experience working with children preferred
  • An entrepreneurial mindset and desire to work hard, solve problems, and improve on everything she/he does

  • A deep love and respect for all children and empathy for the challenges children face in their lives

  • A commitment to practicing gentle, compassionate limit setting

  • A strong teamwork ethic, a genuine desire to collaborate with colleagues, and a commitment to professionalism

requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Teaching experience a plus. Teaching certificates are NOT required!

We strongly prefer candidates who would be available every week day from 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM. In your cover letter, please specify what part-time hours/days you would be available—morning, mid-day, or afternoon—and any scheduling constraints. Please note that as a small school, Acton is unable to sponsor candidates for employment-based visas.
